umm.. a 12 escort wing of patcoms is rather much for a little trader with 3 freighters...and being taxed all the time, each way, is gonna make me quit playing.

I wasn't sure if you were joking or not! We need to add more backdoor routes in the cluster so smugglers can search out ways to get around the tolls. The very purpose of the tolls is to push people into looking for ways around. Right now we are alpha testing for bugs. But of course, we do want impressions on the balance.

Well should tolls be one way? Either entering or exiting? Hell in Alcuin I got taxed both entering and exiting..then got another toll entering Bedalov again.

That's a little much for people just starting out.

I think government tolls should only be on entering. I do plan to add that. Pirates should not be so "just". But I need to restrict pirate tolls to be closer to pirate stations. So that once you figure out where they are, you can avoid them.

There is also code to ignore players with little cargo, as a kindness to new players. But the basic idea is to upgrade with the pirates in faction standing so your fees go down. It can be more valuable than hiring that extra freighter.

Hmmm. Is having 3 freighters just starting out? How many ships are you seeing in the pirate (not government) tolls? Some of those should be getting pretty beaten up.
