Hello... I had this problem that this forum is posting about... And thanks to this forum I started looking for a new fraunhoffer codec... witch I did find. after installing the code the game worked for 4 hours straight without hangups. I now have 2 fraunhower codecs in the Sounds And audio device section; professional and advanced. dont know if having two of these codecs or the right one is the factor but this obviosly is working.
Q: where did i get the codec?
A: "mp3compr.exe" put that in your favourite web searcher and something *will* come up...
download and install, it's should ask you if you want to overwrite the NEW codec with the OLD codec(this comes in the package), I answered YES. (maybe YOU should backup the original, like i didn't =))
The game works, and I am one happy pappy.
Thank you for these postings, otherwise I don't think I'd manage to go through this problem.

i see it has been a while since anybody touched this topic...

unfortunately, dominus's solution doesnt seem to have any effect. now, i have fashioned a workaround for the problem, involving the use of a java program i wrote and a program that comes with the Winternals Administrator's Pak, by the name of FileMon Enterprise Edition. the pak is $1200, so i suspect few people will buy it just to have voices in this game. also, the procedure is fairly complex, so i'd rather not go into it here.

if anybody decides that having the voices freeze-free is worth getting that program and doing a little work with the sound files, email me at corrodias@hotmail.com with the subject "I-WAR 2 AUDIOFIX" and i will get back to you on it. i dont check that address too often, but if you use that subject line, it will get put in its own folder and i'll be sure to see it.

Hell:),

I have the same problem but I managed to sole it (at lest it doesn’t appear to often).
I reinstalled my codec’s (Ace Mega Codec’s <!-- s8) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8) --> and I increased the RAM allocated for sound (for XP: start\control panel \AudioHQ\ SoundFont\ options\ sound fond cache).

Or the problem is because this deadly combination (Windows XP and SoundBlaster)

Same problem here. This is on a laptop with a Conexant AC-Link Audio (On-Board) with drivers so graciously provided by Compaq. I have gotten to the point where it freezes on the same dialog every time. In Act 3 when you go to the Naval STC Transceiver to drop a few wire taps, every time I dock to the second antenna and guess the right one, it freezes just as Smith is about to say something. It's always after the newfangled 4 conduits antenna. I have tried backtracking my saves, but to no avail. Also, I get pauses, only like 2 seconds, but they are there.
