This brings up a really good discussion topic: Station Inventory (and faction standing).

What we currently do is limit the number of pods you can purchase, and let you sell whatever you want. The way we limit what the player can earn is by not letting the player purchase high value pods.

Bozobub is suggesting adding a limit to purchasing inventory. Which is a cool idea. And if the meta game had an economic component, purchased inventory could be processed by the station into goods the player can buy.

Pirates (my current kick) had an interesting solution. Cash supply was used to limit the number of goods the player could sell. Cash supply is smaller at poorer and smaller settlements, which gave exactly the effect Bozobub was requesting. Pirates would pay top dollar for cannon, but only for 3 of them. Players faction standing also seemed to factor into the amount of cash (and maybe goods) that were for sale.
