For starters you seem to be missing the "dx7graph.fcGraphicsDeviceD3D", which should look like below: (unless you just cut those lines out when you pasted your log?)
DXINPUT: [unknown] **** Device initialised OK
FLUX: [unknown] Starting input mapper...
FLUX: [unknown] Input mapper started successfully
FLUX: [unknown] Creating device to implement "FiGraphicsDevice" with class "dx7graph.fcGraphicsDeviceD3D"...
FLUX: [unknown] Device creation succeeded
DX7GRAPH: [unknown] ******** Binding fcGraphicsDeviceD3D to window...
Why the installation directory takes so long to come up, I dunno?
I do know, that one version of the nf2 IDE driver (1.5?) had a serious problem in respect to copy protection and was replaced.
But, that wouldn't explain why the EOC directory should take so long to show? (unless you/WinXP left half of the directory contents on the CD when you installed it).
Can you open the EOC directory immediatly if the CD is not in the a cd drive at all?

No..i cant...i tried it..with and without cd...takes always the same time...all other folders are fine.
never seen behavior like that.
Im currently playing X2 The Threat and it works fine...although i dont find it as near as good as EOC.
Im using the latest NForce drivers. 4.26 that is. I downloaded them yesterday.

I have an idea:
You're using the German game version on an english OS and
the German version of the game uses a path like this
"<your drive letter>:\Programme\Infogrames\Edge of Chaos - Indepedence War 2\EdgeOfChaos.exe"
I'm pretty sure the english/US version uses another path. I think without "Edge of Chaos -"?? It could well be, the game also looks for a different path on an english OS?
Your registry may be looking around and eventually finding it but it takes so long that flux just crashes?
If you make a shortcut on your desktop to the EOC install directory will it open immediatly if you double click on it?
What happens if you make a new shortcut on your desktop pointing to the EdgeOfChaos.exe in the EOC directory?
You need to get the issue with the delayed explorer resolved before you mess around with the the driver/flux log stuff anymore because, as you said, it could well be flux just isn't updating due to crashes:
If it still doesn't work after you've got the directory/registry sorted:
You could try windowed mode to see if it runs then. Back up your flux. ini somewheres and then change the one in the game in it's[FcGame] section to like this:
full_screen = 0
width = 640
height = 480
bit_depth = 16
Also change it way down at the bottom in the section [Debug] like this:
developer_mode = 1
Maybe flux will update then, and you can post a new flux.log?
Just, don't forget to change flux.ini back before you play

well....im not sure because i install it on a different HDD and different folder. " E:\Games\Edge of Chaos - Indepedence War 2"
i created a few logs now...including Flux.log and Access.log... access.log goes up to the crash.
funny enough...no videos shown in window mode. i blame that for the crash ingame.
when i start a new game, the intro movie is not shown and it jumps right into the space.
i had that once before, after editing the flux.ini but forgetting to copy the movies over. same behavior here, even inspace.
but movies are copied.

OK...i think im one step further. I disabled the sound in flux.ini...and i can get into the game. Even though the movies still have sound (which is logical, because they have nothing to do with the sound engine).
Weird is that it jumps into the cockpit right away, when i start a new game and then after 10sec the intro movie starts.
Could be the Developer mode.
Anyway, it seems to be a sound problem. But i dont know how to fix it yet.
I use a Game Theater 7.1. I might have to check the settings of the card. I got it for ages and it never made problems
with EOC ( maybe DX9 problem)

Of course, the actual path doesn't matter nor the drive letter (if you haven't changed it after installing the game).
What I meant was that it could be exactly the Edge of Chaos - Indepedence War 2 part that's messing it up.
I dunno, but the charachter "-" may be interpreted differently on US/English Systems or have another/different Ansi code number?
(Somehow I remember something about that, but I'm not sure.)
Maybe just uninstall and then re-install to E:\Games\IWar2
Might help? (and can't make things worse)
