It should look like this (if you don't have dev_mode set.)

LOADER: [unknown] Entering WinMain
FLUX: [unknown] Trying to create application of class "iwar2.icServerApp"
FLUX: [unknown] Application created successfully
FLUX: [unknown] Creating device to implement "FiNetworkDevice" with class "dx8net.fcNetworkDeviceDP8"...
FLUX: [unknown] Device creation succeeded
FLUX: [unknown] Initialising Server "MjrT_EpicOnlF"
FLUX: [unknown] Client 2 tried to connect to the server...
FLUX: [unknown] Client 2 connected to the server
FLUX: [unknown] Sent control message FmMultiplaySendClientInfo to client 2
FLUX: [unknown] Sent control message FmMultiplayWorldInfo to client 2
FLUX: [unknown] Client 2 validated.

It looks like you're missing the DX8 part.

Try running dxdiag ?

Also, did you remember to remove (re-name) the folder images/planets?

I remembered the planets, and I run dxdiag.
the last page told me something about "only available with dx8" or so - I didn't think about that. dx9b is installed.
Guess I have to do it again and reinstall that dx9b.

We'll gonna see

Thanks for your help, it was something wrong with the dx9b installation. Sometimes you need another pair of eyes to see the problem.
I can't imagine how the version chould define itself as 4.x - something strange was going on.
Now - the booting sequence was regular too.

I managed to host a regular MP server, but I'll have to reinstall EpicOnlineF. I'll do this tomorrow.

And I'll try to reconfigurate my firewall. "Allow All" makes me feel sick...

It goes funny now[}:)]

I was able to host a game before installing EpicOnlineF.
Now I can open a server, but the screen freezes at the start button.
I start the game again and try to join an internet game and what do I find: my own server "Tarcoon EpicOnlineF" - ready to join.

There was a solution for that, but I don't remember...

That means the server app is being created but the game can't find a ship (ini file) or some other important file like a map and is therefore rejecting the client.

First thing to check: Did you go into MP options and select one of the new ships after you ran the install EpicOnl batch file?

(Explanation:
The batch file moves the original MP ships to a different folder so if you don't select one of the new ships the MP save file tells the game to use the last ship selected in a previous MP game. It tries to load that ships .ini but since the path is no longer existant it can't find the inifile and times out)

If slecting a new ship doesn't help we need to compare the contents of some of the folders in the game, to make sure all the paths are correct.

*Sarcastic mode*: That is a special feature of XP (= Bug): you can run a server application without seeing it as active on your PC. Could have something to do with the special features in XP that allows it to contact M$ without you knowing/seeing it?

The only way I know to stop the hidden server application is: disconnect from the internet and reboot your system.
