I've discovered these little jewels during my many, many hours of playing:
-YOU CAN SHOOT DOWN MISSLES!
for more advanced players, very useful when going head-to-head. Enemies always launch missles, period. If you are able to find the missle in the HUD and see its' vector, disengage autoaim (x), use your quad lite and open fire as acurately as possible @ missle. Works really well when the missle is heading straight towards you. Gat. Cannon/Aslt cannon works too - use rapid fire wpns for best results
- Unhindered pirating:
I've found that if you can destroy an escort with one burst, the other escorts won't notice. Example: in one game I managed to get my hands on three heavy PBCs linked together (not hard). If you fly up real close to a motionless or constant-vector interceptor (under 1K works best) with the victim lined up, reallocate energy to weapons (SHIFT-UPARROW) and, on salvo mode, fire one shot. BOOM! the escort vanishes and no one is the wiser. The catch is, you have to move fast to take them all out and then get the cargo.
- Linked missles
If you have a weapons link and two missle launchers, load at least one pod in EACH launcher with the same missle type. Then, when you fire one of that type missle on salvo mode, it'll fire one from each launcher. Handy for delivering a punch in a pinch, but unfortunately missles will behave exactly the same. If one is sucesfully decoyed, the other is as well. It is really fun with blizzard rockets: four quadpacks w/2x internal mags packs a crapload of explosiveness. (PS: not recomended for REM missles; you pilot one and the other is wasted.)
- Extended Jafs call
normally, when you press J, all pods within 15k are tagged for jafs. However, when you engage the imaging module and press J, that range is extended to the sub-target range of your sensors (30K) This is also true for individual tagging, and you don't need to have the pod in your sights, either.
and yes, you can link lasers. Hee hee hee, that's fun...
