newbie Q (nice +easy)

hello there im new 2 all this so dont the urine.
right then how do i fire flare's?

Flares are fired automatically when a missile is detected coming your way. Theer is a mod on the download page under the Particle Systems list whereby you can fire them manually, but the flares take up a weapon space. And there's no real gain, so it's best to stick with the auto option.

But do the flares really fire automatically? If they do, they seem to be completely ineffective as I am constantly having to evade missles at close range. It's not like I expect the flares to work all the time but it seems like they never work. What gives?

Further along you are in the game, the better stuff you have. That includes flares. Until you get a ship better than the tug, missiles will remain a serious threat
