Killer Freighter
Killer Freighter
23 years 6 months ago
Twice i've been flying around in Firefrost, when i decide to do a little pirating.
I attack a Government Freighter (Venice, Oakland, or City class) and its escorts, and when i do, a Jeep class freighter turns hostile too.
I kill the normal escorts, then go after the Jeep, but....
MY SHOTS GO RIGHT THROUGH IT!!!!!!!!!!
PBC's, Gat's, Missles, even DeathBlow Remotes don't even scratch it.
i cant call jafs cuz of the freighter, so i decide to leave it, go to LDS, and move a short distance before i get hit by an LDSi missle, its the damn freighter, it comes after me until i give up and let it kill me, or sssslllllooooowwwwwllllllyyyyy get to an L-Point and jump out of the sytem.
Anyone seen this before??

I've been attacked by jeep's before - but I've never had an indestructable one.
Was there any sign of you hitting it at all? any LDA flare for instence.
And on a side note - I've found you can dodge the ldsi missiles. If you manual over thrust away from the bad guy's, then when you leave the ldsi field turn 90% from your existing course and engage lds. As soon as LDS kicks in roll and turn so that you spiral away from your original location.
It may take 2-3 go's to shake them but you will shake them.
Only thing is they have a nasty habit of catching up to you 5-10 minutes later, so once you shake them head back to base and save the game.
I think what happens is that when you do this the ldsi can't get close enough to you to detonate - and it eventually loses you or times out.

Once, when I had a large ammount of cargo floating around an L-point, I engaged a tanker freighter (a shot meant for another ship hit it). It began to follow me around, and I found every shot thereafter passed through it, no matter where on the ship I targeted.
After exhausting every other possibility (missiles, ramming the engines, running it into other ships, etc...), I set up at the L-point as if I were jumping out, and flew through the L-point (to the red end- not a jump). The tanker followed and jumped out-system, and I was able to call Jaffs.

Nothing at all happened when i shot it, no LDA flare, no flames from the hull, not even when i used a cutting beam.
Once my very first shot from a PBC did a little bit of damage, but like maybe 3-4 points of damage, then they stopped doing anything, and the freighter autorepaired while coming after me.

Every once in awhile, the game will create a ship without a collision hull. Who knows why. These are commonly called 'ghost ships'. I think this is probaby what you're seeing. What I can't figure out is why it would go hostile and shoot ldsi missiles.
