L-point travel

Please help. I just got the game but am unable to initiate L-point travel. How do you activate the L-drive or what ever it is?

I've tried the method of starmap-location-zoom in-jump destination-fire/enter--fly into L-point. NOTHING happens. I fly through looking a complete idiot when a patcom flies out of the L-point, straightup my tail pipes.

PLEASE HELP!

Hello Howling. You won't receive the capsule drive (needed to use an L-Point) until the end of Act II. Until then, you're stuck in Hoffer's Wake.

At the beginning of the game, you're not supposed to be able to use L-Points.

Oops. Counted the Prelude as Act I.
