I didn't even need that many steps to run the game.

I only needed to install and patch the game, run:

winetricks quartz directplay
and then disable winegstreamer in winecfg.
Afterwards, it worked fine. But I'm on a European system and that corrupts the flux.ini sometimes, so I had to do the LC_ALL fix, too. Maybe that affects Torn Stars, too?
