Game freezes

hi .. i just took my old dusty copy of eoc out of my racket and installed it. i thought it was just time to play it again... sadly the game froze after i tried to start the single player game... i get the first frame and some engine sound and then it stops. i searched everywhere but noone seems to have experienced this problem earlier...
system is a amd 2.5ghz cpu radeon 9800 gaphic card and an onboard ac94 onboard sound chip..
os is winxp
strangely the intro movie play without the slightest problem.. can someone help me?

Did you try some of the possible solutions described in the threads of the last 60 days?

There is no safe distance

i already read the other threads prior to posting here... but nothing there seems to adress my problem... i already tried to shut down my hardware accelaration to no avail... the video aint damaged either because its possible for me to play it outside of the game with not a slightest problem.. i even made a clone cd copy in case it had to do with my cdrom drive (i mounted it via software cdrom emulator)
please help... would be a shame if i had to throw it in the bin

What do you think does adress your problem? If you know it, fix it:)

Did you manage the codec stuff?
Run DXdiag?
Reinstallation?
DirectX version?
Problems with other games?
Actual drivers?




There is no safe distance

It could be, you have a problem with bump mapping that wasn't properly implimented in the patched version of the game and sometimes causes problems. If so, you can fix it easily

Go into <EOC directory>/resource/images/
right click on the folder "planets" and rename it to "no_planets"

Edit: above refers to the resource folder, not the folder named resource.zip.

There is also an issue with XP if you live in a country that uses a "," instead of "." as a decimal point. Is that the case?
