Great! I dispaired for a long time over the lack of modelers in the Epic group. I did not believe we could achieve the new 'feel' for Epic using the same models as Edge of Chaos.
On the freighters: We really don't need them to be armed to the teeth. If they could support a medium_hardpoint null fore and aft it would be enough. I don't want a freighter to be capable of fighting off waves of attackers (escort ships should still provide a valuable role in the game), but I do believe the mounting of a light energy-based turret would be logical (in that manner, the craft might flee while providing covering fire for itself).
However, there needs to be some discussion on this, in several areas, along with some tests that I need to run on the "power and heat applied to the AI ship models" area. Those tests should be finished sometime tonight. Please forgive the delays. Rebalance is a large project... it strays into the areas of system balance, new systems/weapons/ship types, loadout, fleet balance, game difficulty, and other murkier areas I've probably not thought of yet.
For instance: How far do we wish to go with the armed freighter idea? Will freighters also mount shields? Missile magazines? Light, medium, or heavy cannons? Ammo or energy based? Carry pods attached to the outside (current setup) or, as GrandpaTrout mentioned, carry them under some type of skin (cargo bay)? Much needs to be decided on this. And I don't want the modelers (correction: our one and only modeler!) to become discouraged when faced with endless changes from a rebalance effort not thought out in complete detail.
Thanks for the patience everyone's affording me on this.
[edit] Another thought. If we feel the freighters are starting to look too similar to each other from faction to faction (I do. What, there's only three designs for freighters in this universe?), would it be possible to use the two freighter types made by the Babylon 5 group and add different insignia/paint/appearance?
No confusion; just wrong or right ... Only Solutions

I had a couple of ideas for more transports, so that might help too.

Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear.

I'm also pledged to model all the ships you saw in my sketches for the Epic mod.

Please accept my apologies, NathanKell. I did not mean to exclude you. (I'm middle-aged... I forget stuff.)
You're a welcome addition to Epic. I think with the excellent scripters and the excellent modelers, Epic will certainly be the best mod out there.
