Are your sensors faulty? It looks dangerous out there.

Finally!! Thanks MajorTom, but I wanted to play it through. I must have a different game or something because it ended up with me -- alone -- against both the cruiser and the carrier with Frankie Hoffer watching from a distance. My only really effective weapon was a trusty cutting beam. After I dispatched the cruiser (the beam up his arse), and hit the carrier down the side three or four times, everybody left. Frankie then said thanks and that I could go home and that I'd be amply rewarded (haven't seen a thing, of course). This damn mission took over 20 tries. Thanks for the help.
(P.S. In case anybody else is having the same trouble with this mission, I found the best way to begin the final battle is to immediately use your right lateral thruster to get you away from the action until you can get your act together. Do not try to go straight into the fray. That's how you quickly get "killed" after all your previous work in this mission.).
