When I first played I War (way back in 98) I had no graphics card and the software mode seemed just fine (for the day) and the game still completely and utterly blew me away. This had more to do with gameplay and simulation quality than graphics, though. I'm less of an eye-candy slave.
I recently played through it again on my new machine with the graphics card turned down to 0 (so, still on software mode), and it played fine. The graphics show their age abit, but the gameplay was just as good, and the movies were excellent.
Point is, even if you can't find a solution to the graphics acceleration issue, this game is worth every second you spend with it.
Glad you found a copy, and will get to enjoy the game that started this whole community.
