Ok - done

And sorry Second Chance - I didn't answer your comment: you are right, the movies are in 640x480 and this saves some MB's. I'll remake a regular Station Kill and one of those Academy Gunstars in 640x480 and in 400x400 and post the Data.

Thanks Tarcoon, I got the movie you sent.

It runs without a problem in the game just like the normal intro movie. The 640x480 is expanded to full screen size so you do notice the lower resolution.

Is there a better way to capture movies ingame than with fraps?
(without paying hundreds of dollars for a video capture card?)

I'll put the movie in the next mod dev version as an example and upload it later today so we can all see it. (or, should I wait for a different movie before we put it in the mod?)

This noticeable lower resolution problem let me try to convert a 800x600 sequence. It looks good, even in full screen mode, but it fills 51 MB.

I don't know a better way to capture movies. The Camtasia Recorder delivers bad results comparing with Fraps. I'll search for some other software...

Use the movie as you like - we may change everything later.

Some news from movie making: after some deep testing with different recorders and different codecs I think there is no better software than Fraps for capturing and Bink for compressing available for me. If you pay some hundred bucks there will be better stuff.

I made a 400x400 size movie in 1024x768/25fps - 40 seconds/audio with only 1.92 MB but the quality is rather bad. The same movie with 6 to 7 MB looks fine.

I think we should decide how many MB's we want to invest into the movie section of the mod.
50 MB or maybe 200 MB? EoC delivers over 600 MB on CD.
How many movies do we need? What shall they show?

Thanks for the update, Tarcoon.

The primary reason for a movie is to replace the EOC intro when the game starts in mp mode.

We're kinda stuck with .bik anyhow since the game engine will play the movies.

The compression in .bik is so high that you get no size reduction when it's zipped. We'll have to keep the movies small, or the download for the mod will be too big.

We don't need long movies like in the games intro, a couple of nice short movies at about 6 mb would be better imo.

... and these 6 MB movies should be full screen or 400x400 for the GUI?

6 MB in 400x400 will show a ~80 sec movie.
(640x480 cropped to 400x400 with acceptable result)
6 MB in full screen mode - hhm - I'll have to check this.

edit: in full screen it will show ~30 secs movies:)
