I think he meant a single-play Death Star scenario.
The Death Star is roughly 160km in diameter. Using the game camera FOV of 1.1 radians (63.0253575 degrees), you would have to be roughly 200 kilometers away to just about see the entire station (250 would be a nicer view). At 300 to 400 mph it would take you about 20 to 25 minutes to reach it's surface from that distance.
