Original I-War crashes on exif from missions

I am trying to resurect my original copy of I-War. In original and patched form it crashs to the desktop when leaving missions and also sometimes when using capsule drive.

I remember reading about this issue on the old forums, but can't remember if there was a solution. I am running it windowed.

Is anyone still running the original game on a modern XP based system without 3Dfx cards?
