I'd agree that the capacity of the Colossus is basically overkill, since I've got the impression that traffic dies to a trickle once you build up many more than 100 contacts in an area. Whether that's directly related, or just that traffic dries up after you've hung around that long, I dunno.
If you want to give yourself the ability to do silly hauls in single trips, though, I'd recommend the Colossus over the Megafreighter because, in my experience, the Jafs pilot AI gets badly confused by something about the Megafreighter's collision hull, and tends to spend ages ramming into pods, a problem I didn't encounter after switching to the Colossus.
