Wings of Defiance - Star Wars mod updates

Hmm, it occured to me that we have one of these over at the atari forums, but not here. So this'll be it. I'll start posting all the development pics here too, since the new models are really just part of a mod and not questions, statements or tutorials on 3D modeling.

For those of you who might be new to the forums, let me start by explaining what Wings of Defiance is. Star Wars: Wings of Defiance (or WoD) is a multiplayer/co-op total conversion for Edge of Chaos. It is based in the Star Wars universe of the original trilogy and includes all new ship models, custom coded new ship types, revised multi-player code, new weapon graphics and weapon types, custom Star Wars cockpits for each and every ship, authentic Star Wars sounds and music, new HUD and GUI graphics, team-based play (with bots for single-player), a Star Wars style flight model and much, much more! There are plenty of posts for this mod littered throughout these forums (one of the reasons for starting an official thread). So if you'd like more background just do a search for Star Wars terms and you'll see a ton of them.

WoD has been in development for almost two years and the mod team has expanded and contracted much since then. So far we've had a total of eight different people contribute their talents! But at the moment it's back down to MajorTom and myself (the founders).

If you'd like to see the new models and their current states of development, head on over to my website (the middle button at the top of my post) and go to Game Models. For other news and info visit MajorTom's site here: home.cablerocket.com/~majortom/

You can also read the "official" thread over at atari, here: ina-community.com/forums/showthr ... did=377192

I'd also like to start this thread off with a repeat of what I just posted in that thread.

For everybody wondering where the hell we've been for the past several months, we've just been on a bit of a hiatus. (Personally, I just really needed to get away from my computer for a while. And since the entire project is basically being held up waiting for me to finish ship textures anyway, the whole thing has sort of ground to a halt because of that. But I'll be back on the job soon enough.) MajorTom will be dedicating considerable time to the project over the Christmas holiday. Obviously we have to work on this part-time; but however long it takes, it will get finished.

The graphical work is about 90% done, and I believe that most of the coding is too. But we're going to need experienced INI file modders to create the bulk of the ship files and do the balancing (MT and I just can't do it all ourselves). Unfortunately, due to the scope of the project we really do need experienced INI modders, who understand the in's and out's of the EoC INI files really well and understand how to balance an entire game. The downside to that is that there are very few of these people about, and they're generally involved in their own projects and not available. So if anybody has been following the development of this mod and wanted to help, now's your chance. Mod the hell out of your INI files and balance them like there's no tommorrow! Anyone who offers to help and doesn't need us to teach them everything will receive a place of honor on the team (and we'll probably name something in the mod after you, too :D). That's all we can offer, since none of us has any money <!-- s:cry: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cry.gif" alt="" title="Crying or Very sad" /><!-- s:cry: -->. You've got a couple of months to hone you skills, and virtually everything there is to know about INI files can be found in the SDK or over in Soup Dragon's forums. We can fill you in on some of the more obscure stuff. I hope some of you are willing to try. Otherwise, it's probably going to take us another year and a half to get this thing finished. Thanks.

So we are definitely looking for new team members. And although INI file modders are the most needed, we welcome experienced 3D modelers and POG coders.

UPDATE

Yay! I finally finished the X-Wing cockpit.

I think I'll work on the A-Wing cockpit next.

Two down, two to go.

Cool, thanks. [8D]

And in my continuing effort to avoid doing the work that actually needs to be done, I present:

The Tie Interceptor Model Mk II
  • I completely rebuilt the cockpit ball to accept textures better
  • Repainted all cockpit ball textures to be more accurate
  • Fixed all texture colors to the more correct "blue"

The regular Tie got the same update.

That, is awesome. The TIEs look good as well, and the cockpits are outstanding.
