The difference is though, Dark currents is (or was?) a chessboard type game that plays with itself in the background and allows the player to do different kinds of stuff at different points along the way.
DOW was intended to be a game for people to play with.
i.e it has a series of objectives and motivates the player to find solutions. That is a lot more work because the game mechanics and systems have to interact with and react to the player (instead of the other way around).
