<font face="Arial">I have just come back to the game after playing an incredibly inferior game called Freelancer. It's just that I can't seem to get a grasp of this game quite yet.
So, I finally got the cheats to work - sorta.
After I changed all the .ini files and restored the defaults I finally got the 'destroy target' cheat to work. However I really stink at combat. Would someone tell me how I would know if the invulnerability cheat is working? Is anything displayed? Is my hull strength still supposed to plummet when I am hit and supposed to be invulnerable?</font id="Arial">

Uh, I don't cheat so I dont know for sure, but the simplest way would be to test it. Just annoy a cruiser or something and sit still. If you blow up, it ain't working.

Also, EoC combat is incredibly difficult to begin with but once you have the hang of it, this is one of the best combat games of all time. Seems a shame to waste that by turning on some cheat modes and blasting your way through. I suggest you persevere with it a little more. Your choice though.

When the cheat is active it should say indestructable in red in middle of the top of the screen. It's right under where it says what missions are active. It still says that your spacecraft takes damage but it really doesn't. I had a problem with getting this cheat to work untill I realized that I had a semi-colon in front of the cheat. The game thought it was a comment!

yes, I see the red indestructible now. Have to enable developer mode in the flux.ini first before it shows up. It also gives me a nice little FPS counter too. I learned this from the SDK. I was going to try and write a script myself but found out that writing in a scripting language similar to C is very difficult when one doesn't know a whole lot about C. (My C experience is 'Hello World') :)

Don't let that stop you if you really want to script. My experience was even less. A book on basic C++ and a month and a half later and I'd written my first script... the Sandbox. And it was a large project for a first script.
