The Indies are, according to the manual, made up of terrorists, pirates and an underground political group. The mission 'Morgan; does seem to suggest, however, that there are pirates who do not consider themselves members of the Indie Movement.
Indie ships can be easily recognised by the fact that they are covered in graffitti and insulting or threatening gestures to the Navy. The Indies' sizable array of vessels comprises commercial ships, mining vessels and stolen naval craft. It is fair to say that the majority of the Independent fleet is made up of PATCOMs and retrofitted TUGs. Commonwealth Intelligence is aware of only one destroyer under Indie control: the Under New Ownership (or UNO), previously the Havard (CNV-222), stolen five years ago. The Indies did attempt to gain control of a cruiser during the Battle of Metallake and would have succeeded, werre it not for the gallant actions of the Dreadnaught, the Chad, Amazon, Euphrates and Niger.
The discovery that the COSA conspiracy was supplying new ships to the Indies in an effort to prolong the war indefinitely suggests that the Indies may be more powerful than we are aware...
I am currently collaborating with Russell Patterson to create an Indie shiplist akin to the Commonwealth one in this guide.
