The History of the Commonwealth.

Alas, precious little is known about the Commonwealth. What
we do know is that it constitutes Earth and her colony stars, which would
seem to suggest that the Commonwealth didn't come into existence at least
until the advent of displacement technology. Certainy it has been around
for over one hundred yearsm as stated int he manual. I conjecture that
the Commonwealth was born in the latter part of the 21st century, seeing
as the LDS drive was first pioneered in 2034. The birth of the Commonwealth
was probably before the advent of the capsule drive, but as no date for
this is given one cannot say for sure. We do know that the Commonwealth
has been involved in a guerilla war with the Independence Movement for
the past century. However, the uncovering of the COSA conspiracy leaves
us wondering whether, without their interference, the war would have concluded
naturally at an earlier date.
The structure of the Commonwealth is slightly clearer.
At the top of the pile sits the President (Harrison King, in the game).
Beneath him are his advisors which consist mostly of the naval top brass.
Fleet Admiral Hanson appears to be the second most powerful person in the
Commonwealth. The main Commonwealth headquarters are located on Earth in
some unidentified city, possibly London. The main naval HQ is near Mars
and there is at least one training facility on the Moon.
Earth obviously isn't much of a paradise in the twenty-third
century. Aside from the polluted skyline of the densely populated London
in the intro movie, we also hear of 'starving hordes in A-zone'. The mission
'Surgery' also shows us that the Earth's atmosphere is maintained only
with the aid of environmental drones.
